Honda CR-V 2023 Larger and even perhaps better

The 2023 Honda CR-V, Honda's best-selling vehicle, is returning and bigger than ever. The compact SUV has set the bar for its category thanks to a potent combination of exceptional practicality and good driving performance. Although we can't yet share our first views of how the new model drives, we can look at the specs and see that it appears to provide a number of upgrades over its already excellent predecessor.

Well, it's bigger, which is one of the major changes. The inside of this CR-V, which is the largest yet, is extremely roomy and has the most cargo space in its class. Additionally, the infotainment system has been much enhanced, and the hybrid powertrain has been modified to provide additional torque. The styling has also substantially improved in our opinion.

The new 2023 CR-V, however, enters a highly competitive market area and, despite intelligently targeting the center of the market, it provides none of the branching into the many niches that have emerged in recent years. There isn't a plug-in hybrid available to compete with the Ford Escape PHEV, Kia Sportage PHEV, Hyundai Tucson PHEV, and Toyota RAV4 Prime.

Kia Sportage

Additionally, neither a more rugged model level like the Sportage, Mazda CX-50, or Subaru's Forester and Outback are offered, which has long been a concern about the CR-V. In general, the CR-V could use a little more intrigue. However, the 2019 CR-V will still be something to keep an eye on and add to your test-drive list if you're searching for a more traditional small SUV.

The 2023 Honda CR-V has changed

For the next model year, the 2023 Honda CR-V is had a complete redesign.

A brand-new interior goes hand in hand with a brand-new exterior. unique to the CR-V, at the very least. Its layout and style will seem incredibly familiar to anyone who has driven a new Civic. It also resembles the brand-new HR-V quite a bit. Fortunately, the interior is excellent. The aesthetic is simple and uncluttered. Additionally, the dash is low, which improves sight and gives the cabin a roomy feeling.

Whether it's a turn signal stalk or the much-appreciated climate control dials, with crisp, robust motion. Plastics come in a variety of forms, but they all have lovely patterns and finishes. Although it doesn't quite match the Mazda CX-50 or CX-5's premium feel, the Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson are comparable. Additionally, it is far more luxurious than what you would find in a Ford Escape or a Chevy Equinox.

The CR-instrumentation V's and infotainment include a 7-inch screen that may show the tachometer and other information along with an analog speedometer. The basic infotainment screen is a 7-inch touchscreen with physical menu buttons, volume and tuning knobs, and other controls. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay come as standard.

The CR-V receives a larger 9-inch touchscreen with just a volume knob and menu buttons on the upper EX-L and Sport Touring models, as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as wireless charging. Instead of the slow, unreliable, and unsightly technology utilized by the previous CR-V, this infotainment system now works with any screen size and uses the operating system and user interface from the Accord and other Honda cars.

There are fewer layers of menus, it is much more aesthetically pleasing, and the responses are much quicker. It also has large, appealing, and easy-to-press icons. Despite the fact that we still favor the Hyundai/Kia system, it is a system that is truly competitive with its rivals.

The CR-V has grown

CR-V

This generation has seen a huge increase in the CR-V. It is 0.4 inch wider, 2.7 inches longer, and has a 1.6-inch larger wheelbase. It is also a few inches longer than the Toyota RAV4, its main competition. All of this stretching is advantageous for interior space in every way. Honda hasn't provided details on passenger volume, but from a seat inside the SUV, it unquestionably feels larger and more comfortable. There is enough of leg, knee, and shoulder room for the front passengers. Although headroom isn't quite as generous, most individuals can still feel completely at ease.

Although the front seats themselves don't have a lot of form, they do have plenty of side bolstering and ample padding. Additionally, there is a significant deal of adjustment, making it simple to reach a comfortable posture. In the CR-V, that hasn't always been a given.

The true show-stopper, though, are the back seats. Although they are a little stiffer and flatter than those in the front, the room is fantastic and they are still quite comfy. There is enough of space in every direction, especially for the legs. Additionally, there is a ton of footroom under the front seats, thereby adding more room and enabling the backseat passengers to spread out completely. The backs of the rear seats can also recline by 10 degrees. As a result, passengers may spend many, many hours in comfort in the back of a modern CR-V.

Now, regardless of the powerplant, cargo space remains the same. The new CR-V offers both more and less cargo room than the previous model, according to the official measurement of 36.3 cubic feet, which is roughly in the middle of the old hybrid and gas-only volume requirements. It also places it behind the Toyota RAV4 and the enormously bigger Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage. But in the end, this is about magnitudes of huge. The CR-V has the largest maximum cargo space with the seats folded down, at 76.5 cubic feet.

The CR-V fuel economy and performance specs

For the 2023 CR-V, there are two available powertrains. The 1.5-liter turbocharged four-standard cylinder's output is 190 horsepower and 179 pound-feet of torque. A continuously variable gearbox transfers power to either only the front wheels or all four if all-wheel drive is chosen as an option. For the new CR-V, no fuel economy figures have been released yet. The figures should be similar to or somewhat better than the old model, which scored about 30 mpg when combined with essentially the same powertrain.

The hybrid is the other form of propulsion. It has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with naturally aspirated fuel and two electric motors. Most of the time, it functions as a series hybrid, with the larger of the two motors turning the wheels while the gas engine generates power. The gas engine can directly supply drive power in specific circumstances. There are 204 horsepower and 247 pound-feet of torque combined.

While there are 15 more pound-feet of torque, there are 8 fewer horsepower than the 212 horsepower indicated for the previous CR-V Hybrid. Although the fuel economy of the new model has not yet been disclosed, it should be comparable to or even better than the 38 mpg combined of the outgoing model.

The 2023 CR-V price

The CR-price V's has not yet been disclosed. Over the initial price of $28,045 for the present model, we anticipate the base price to rise. Because Honda no longer offers the base LX trim, it only offers the EX and EX-L trims for non-hybrid cars and Sport and Sport Touring for hybrid cars.
