This year, Honda is redesigning a number of its SUV models, including a new HR-V for 2023 and a new Pilot for later this year. For the time being, it's the turn of the bestselling CR-V, and Honda has just published the first images of the 2023 CR-V. The revised front- and rear-end appearance of the compact SUV is shown in these teaser shots. Based on earlier spy photographs, we anticipate the new CR-V to be slightly larger than the current model, with redesigned headlights and taillights, as well as a broader grille, giving it greater road presence.
Honda will place a greater emphasis on the CR-V's hybrid powertrain in this generation, as it intends for this model to account for half of the sales mix. We expect the new hybrid setup to be a bit more powerful than the current CR-V Hybrid, which makes a combined 212 horsepower. The EPA-estimated combined fuel efficiency of 38 mpg should increase; in our long-term evaluation of a 2021 CR-V Hybrid, we averaged 30 mpg overall.
The CR-nonhybrid V's powertrain is expected to be the same turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four that's already standard, possibly with a little more grunt than the 190 horsepower and 179 pound-feet of torque offered by the 2022 CR-V. It will almost certainly keep its continuously variable automatic transmission and front- or all-wheel drive configuration.
The new CR-V is also described as "rugged" and "adventurous," implying that it will get a TrailSport trim level like the larger Passport and Pilot SUVs. In the case of the CR-V, this is likely to consist primarily of cosmetic changes, as well as new tires and potentially modest improvements to the all-wheel-drive system or drive modes. The current LX, EX, EX-L, and Touring trim levels should also be carried over.
Within the coming few months, expect more specific information about the CR-V, including engine specs, pricing, and feature details.
