Audi debuted the A6 e-tron Sportback concept last year, previewing an all-new mid-size electric vehicle that will join the German automaker's lineup in 2023. The company has followed up with a station wagon variant that will be produced in 2024 and will have the same underpinnings.
The Audi A6 Avant e-tron concept follows the same design language as the Audi Sportback concept, which is gorgeous, especially in wagon form. Both A6 e-tron versions will be built on the Volkswagen Group's scalable PPE platform, which is presently being developed in collaboration with Porsche and will underlie future vehicles such as an electric Porsche Macan and an Audi Q6 e-tron SUV.
From the front, the Avant appears to be almost identical to the Sportback idea. The fascia is distinguished by a solid panel that resembles the trademark Audi single-piece grille and conceals vents for cooling the batteries, motor, and brakes.
Audi's "Digital Matrix LED" technology will be used in the slim headlamps flanking the panel. The lights are controlled by a sophisticated shutter system that can broadcast a variety of designs and animations.
In 2018, Mercedes-Benz unveiled a similar concept dubbed LED Digital Light. Audi, on the other hand, has stated that the technology is ready for deployment in production vehicles.
The concept's headlights can also project an Audi-developed video game onto a neighboring wall, which can be played from inside the cabin, according to the manufacturer. A full-length light bar with 3d elements is installed on the tail, and a large diffuser is installed on the bumper.
A dual-motor configuration is used to power the Audi A6 Avant e-tron concept. Individual motors provide 469 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque to both axles. Although the battery capacity has not yet been confirmed, the rear-drive variant is expected to have a range of 435 miles on a single charge. The Avant will also include an 800-volt design, which will aid in lightning-fast charging rates. It will take less than 25 minutes to charge the battery from 5% to 80%.
While Audi hasn't published official performance estimates, the fastest A6 Avant e-tron cars are said to sprint from zero to 62 mph in under four seconds. Audi hasn't said whether the production version of the A6 Avant e-tron would be marketed in the United States.
